Plantar Fasciitis / Heel Pain

At Peak Physio we specialise in Planterfascitiis and Heel Pain.
We use a very specialised piece of equipment called Shockwave Therapy

Shockwave

Shockwave therapy is a modern and highly effective treatment method. It works by delivering compressed air though the hand piece, this causes acoustic energy which transmits into the underlying tissue.
Shockwaves accelerate the healing process by activating the body’s self-healing capacities. They stimulate the metabolism and improve the blood circulation. Damaged tissue regenerates and heals. Clinical research has shown that there is a 85% chance that Shockwave Therapy will improve your condition.

Plantar Fasciitis / Heel Pain

Plantar Fascia & Heel pain can develop with a sudden injury. Often it can develop over time with no obvious reason, this is known as Plantar Fasciitis. The pain can be worse in the morning and after sitting for a long time. Sports activities such as running, sprinting and jumping may make it worse. As the injury progresses even walking can become painful.
The plantar fascia is a thick connective tissue that supports the arch on the bottom of the foot that connects the heel bone to the metatarsal heads. The plantar fascia adds to stability of the foot during weight bearing activities such as walking and running.
Initial treatment for your plantar fasciitis may consist of appropriate activity modification, shockwave therapy, manual therapy, massage and exercises to settle the pain. This will be progressed to more functional exercises to progress you towards returning to full function. Strength, proprioception (balance) and biomechanics will all need to be addressed in your rehabilitation.
It is important that we look into the cause of injury which can be assessed by our biomechanical screen. The results of the screen will allow us to identify risk factors and develop your individualised rehab programme. A load and training management plan is also vital for returning to full function.

The First Part Of The Solution – Relieve (Level1)

Peak Physio takes a different approach and will help you to achieve a SOLUTION, not just a quick fix.

Your Physiotherapist will provide you with the acute treatment needed to manage your pain. We do this after a detailed assessment of your injury.

We will tell you –

  1. What is wrong
  2. How we can help you

Following this we can provide treatment and help resolve your pain. The timescale is dependent on the severity and duration of your symptoms. Our highly trained Physiotherapists will advise you on the duration of your treatment.

The Long Term Solution – Restore (Level 2) So how do we stop this cycle?

We will give you an individualised treatment pathway plan. This pathway document is unique to you and your condition and shows you each step to achieving your ultimate goal. The pathway document can be very helpful to keep you motivated while you continue to work on your rehab. We need to look at your strength, flexibility and biomechanics. We do this with an individually tailored Biomechanical assessment so we can identify the risk factors and address them.

Your physiotherapist will advise you on what you need to do to rebuild & restore your foot/ankle strength and lower limb movement patterns. Through a tailored exercise programme we will focus on restoring optimal movement and strength. This can be managed with 1:1 instruction from our Physio in the gym setting.

  • I switched to The Peak Physio from a different clinic since I had been suffering from soar legs and joints for a year. The physiotherapist diagnosed my muscle problem and told me how long will it take to recover in my first visit. It was very informative and helpful. Each time, the exercises were clearly explained and also sent out to me by email. It's also easy to change my appointment they have a few clinics in the city centre.

I experienced a serious problem in recent months with my right knee which threatened to permanently restrict my ability to play tennis. Following an MRI scan my GP recommended going to a physio. Eoin & his colleagues in Peak Physio were very professional in setting up and delivering a targeted treatment plan. After a number of visits the problem was eliminated. I was impressed in particular by the effective use of technology (to communicate the various exercises etc) and the excellent long-term advice I received to prevent re occurrence. The professionalism of Peak Physio compares very favourably with my experiences with other physios in recent years.
