Pilates:

Our Pilates is class is taught by a Chartered Physiotherapist aiming to improve posture, core stability and protect against injury. Here at Peak Physio we are big on form, we spend time in the class making sure everyone is engaging the right muscles. Pilates teaches you about your own body, where there are weaknesses hidden, where there are over-used muscles and where there is stiffness and tension.

Why do Pilates Classes?

Benefits of Pilates:

  • Improve core stability
  • Strengthen the muscles of the upper and lower limbs
  • Improve posture, balance and flexibility
  • Aids recovery from your injury

Physio Led Pilates

Our physio led Pilates classes are a great way to work on these important aspects of physical fitness in a safe and controlled environment. We will make sure you are engaging the correct muscles, for example the deep stabilising muscles -Transversus Abdominis, Multifidus and the Pelvic Floor in order to improve your lumbopelvic stability.

One of our Chartered Physiotherapists will guide you through the class to ensure the exercises are tailored to your specific abilities and to help you encompass all six Pilates Principles (breathing, concentration, centering, precision, flow, control) throughout the session.

We like to add in different elements such as balance, resistance and equipment exercises to challenge you and help reach your goal, whether that is resolving your back pain, improving your posture or running a 5k.

How classes are run

Classes are run with a maximum of 8 people per class, which allows for optimal engagement between the instructor and each participant.

Our classes last 45 minutes.

What we recommend

We recommend you complete at least 4 of our beginner classes before progressing to intermediate if you are new to Pilates.

If you are unsure what level you should join to begin with please contact us.

Make sure to let the instructor know if you are finding the class slightly too challenging or are having difficulty so they can adjust the exercises to suit you.

Pre-Pilates Screening

If you are new to Pilates or our clinic, one of our chartered physiotherapists will carry out a free 15 minutes ‘Pre-Pilates screening’.

This allows you to:

  • Meet with the physiotherapist prior to joining the class.
  • Make some goals so you both know the areas you want to target.
  • Go through the basics of Pilates with you, such as engaging your Transversus Abdominis.
  • Go through a couple of exercises so you are more comfortable when entering the class setting, also enabling the physiotherapist to suggest modifications most appropriate for you.

Our Levels

Beginners Pilates: This class is suitable for anyone who is new to Pilates or is recovering from an injury.

Intermediate Pilates:This class is suitable for anyone who may have done Pilates before and is looking for a challenge.

Mixed Level Pilates: This class is suitable for everyone; whether you are new to Pilates or have some experience. Exercises can be adjusted to suit you throughout the class.

One-to-one Pilates: If you don’t feel ready for the class setting or would prefer more attention, we also offer one-to-one Pilates sessions with our chartered physiotherapists.

This is a great option if you are looking to:

  • continue rehabilitation of an injury
  • achieve a specific goal
  • work towards attending a class

It allows you and your physiotherapist to make specific goals and a plan to achieve them. After identifying the areas that need improvement, e.g. strength, mobility, flexibility, each session will work on progressing the same.

You will be given a home exercise programme, with easy to follow instructions and videos, to continue your Pilates at home.
